Manifestos are boring and usually one big lie too.
But this pithy ‘Key to happiness’ poster is as close as it’s possible to get to my personal manifesto in an unequivocally truthful way.
One of my biggest loves is dogs - I have two rescue ones called Keith and Hattie - and they make me very happy indeed. Keith, being the goofiest, was therefore my pin-up boy in the painting.
I also love traditional pubs with real beer, and the Crown Inn, under the viaduct in Stockport, ranks in my top five pubs in Manchester and Stockport. I’m always happy there - just as the lady with the glass I’ve painted appears to be - so that was the backdrop.
And as an artist who specialises in mostly northern art, it goes without saying that I also love the north of England. My happy place.
So there you go - the key to happiness in my world. Cheers!
