Not many people would have booked an Airbnb in the West Yorkshire town of Todmorden a few years ago.
It was always, in the glamour stakes, the poor relation to trendy Hebden Bridge next door.
But how things have changed! Lots of independent shops, a lively cultural scene and an influx of younger house buyers, together with the existing lovely parks and buildings (including the town hall, with its Greco neo-Classical styling), have made Todmorden a real hot spot.
Which is why we booked an Airbnb there is January, and had a great time, made all the better by visits to the legendary Golden Lion pub, with its Thai food and live music.
Sadly we didn’t get to see any UFOs - apparently it’s THE place in the country to spot them - but we did say hello to that wizard on the hill and did, all in all, to use fifties parlance, have a wizard time.
A Todyssey indeed!
