Even when I lived near London, Balham was not a place I’d really heard of and I’d certainly never visited it.
Back then it was Clapham’s poor relation and Peter Sellar’s even joked about it being ‘the gateway to the south’, ironically, in the Goon Show.
But now, well, it’s uber trendy and much sought-after, and I just happen to have discovered it because my two lovely friends Simon and Vic live there.
It has great housing, including the majestic Du Cane Court, where Tommy Trinder lived, and is surrounded by Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Common. Obviously there are more bars and restaurants than you can shake a stick at.
Which is why I’ve painted a poster of it, complete with one of those parakeets that are so prevalent in South London these days.
The poster, in all its many formats, is available to buy in the shop online store at www.statementartworks.com.
